It is Christmas in July, again!

I'm back for another day of the Masterpiece Quilting's
Christmas Collection Book blog hop!

Today I will share a medium sized stacking pop up
with the Jingle Bells Wall Hanging design on it.

This time I used a Medium Stacking Pop-Up using spring FQG123.
It finishes out at 8" in diameter and 8" tall.

To make this pop up, start out cutting the pieces needed for the inside and outside of the pop up according to the FQG122 Stacking Pop Up Pattern.  Fuse the stabilizer on... I like SF101 ShapeFlex.

Then cut out all the applique pieces.
I didn't change anything for the bells and the bow.
But, I did change the size of the swag.
I stretched it out to 13.25 for a full swag.  I needed 1 of those.
I cut a second swag exactly the same (I used the first one as a pattern)
and cut it in half.

Here is the outside piece of the pop up with the swags fused on.

I centered the full swag and lined up the half swags on either end.
You will notice I left a large area above the swags empty.  This is because the top 1.5" needs to be left empty so the top edge can be rolled twice to finish the pop up.

I laid all the pieces out before I fused the swag to make sure there would be enough room below the swags for the bells.  Make sure the last 1/2" minimum is empty at the bottom edge too.

Then I fused the rest of the applique pieces down and top stitched them.

For the appliques, I used Barely There Fusible Adhesive.  It is a medium heat, quick to fuse product that I really like.  It stays soft and flexible even if you layer many pieces.

I used a plain old straight stitch on this pop because I made it while on an rv trip and when I opened my sewing machine I only had one presser foot!  Only my 1/4".  Oops!
So, there was no zigging or zagging for me!

I followed the FQG122 Stacking Pop-Up pattern exactly to finished the pop up.  I think it turned out very cute!

Thanks for stopping by!

It is Christmas in July!

I am excited to show you what I made using the
Masterpiece Quilting's Christmas Collection Book!

This book is full of great holiday designs.  I decided to make a pop up using two of the designs. Today I'll share the Wreath Runner and Wall Hanging version.

I used precut 10" squares for the reds, greens and tans on the pieced outside.  I had a coordinating 3/4 yd of tan that I used for the inside and both base circles.

This is a Large Stacking Pop-Up using spring FQG124.
I pieced wreath blocks following the instructions for the table runner.
Then I added coping strips between each block and above and below.

I pieced the coping strips so I could mix it up a bit for more variety.  You could use the same fabric as the inside for a more cohesive look.

I added 4" strips between and 3" strips above.
This made the side slightly large than I needed for the FQG122 Stacking Pop-Up pattern.

When I finished piecing the wreath blocks and coping strips, I fused stabilizer to the entire unit.  This gives the side more body and helps keep the seam allowances from fraying once it is a finished pop up.

For the appliqued bow, I used Barely There Fusible Adhesive.  It is a medium heat, quick to fuse product that I really like.  It stays soft and flexible even if you layer many pieces.

I like to use an applique foot and a buttonhole stitch when I do my applique stitching.  The foot makes it so easy to see exactly where the stitches are landing.  The buttonhole stitch is just my favorite.  It is quick and forgiving.  Easy to pivot around curves and corners.

I then trimmed the side down to the size listed in the pop up pattern.  I took the extra width off the coping strip and the extra height from the bottom.

Once this was done, I followed the pattern exactly and finished the pop up!

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Holidays!

Been Eating Mediterranean...

by Joanne Hillestad on 12/13/18

So, I missed yesterday's blog post.  I have been really quite busy lately with proposals for fabric companies, making a super secret quilt which ships tomorrow, trying to find Christmas gifts for family, and other general end of year business things.  Not good excuses... but yesterday I plain old forgot.

Picture of me from 10 years ago because I had nothing else to post.  bahahaha

On top of all that, I have decided to start eating like the people in the Mediterranean.  Lots of olive oil, lean chicken and fish, veggies... then some more veggies.  As I creep up to the big 5-0 I have started trying to be better to myself.  Maybe 2019 will have to be the Year of the Me.  Sometimes a person just needs to step back and change some bad habits.

So far this year I cut Diet Coke.  That was huge... and difficult.  But I feel so much better for it!  Then I took it another step and cut out aspartame and saccharin.  I watched a show on PBS about the impact those 2 artificial sweeteners have on blood sugar and gut health.  Freaked me out a little.  Again... can't believe the difference.

Now, I'm not perfect... i still allow Stevia.  But that is not supposed to be quite as bad as the others... so far.  I was running out of things to drink.  Dairy has been off the list for years.  Allergic to High Fructose Corn Syrup (that knocks out a lot of food and beverages).  Water.  I drink a lot more water.

Hopefully, I will start exercising regularly and lose some of this extra 'me'.  I visit my Oncologist for my annual check up in June... I almost look forward to the comprehensive lab results!  Nothing has been in the bad range... but some of the basics have been creeping in that direction.

Ok, I'm done.  Just a peek into my life... which is just like everyone else.  Except maybe the cancer part... been 11 years.  Yeah me!

Here's to healthier eating! I won't say completely healthy eating... because a girl needs a piece of chocolate every so often...
